Bert Op 't Eijnde
Head of medical staff at KRC Genk
Bert Op ’t Eijnde, head of the medical service of first division soccer team KRC Genk, talks about using B-E-St as a guide to success.
Since it was founded in the eighties, top-class football club KRC Genk follows the latest applications in the field of exertion physiology, rehabilitation sciences and sports medicine.
Why did you choose to add Bio-Energy-Stimulation (B-E-St) to the medical treatment of the players?
B.O.: In modern top-class football injuries and traumas due to strain and contact are very common. Given the importance of every player in the team, it is necessary to treat injuries fast and effectively. KRC Genk not only uses top-level training protocols, it also manages to meet a similar high standard for the medical and paramedical guidance of its players when they are sick or injured. Only scientifically supported rehabilitation techniques and medical applications are used. B-E-St works with microcurrent. Several studies have shown that this kind of current increases the energy at a cellular level which enhances the regeneration of damaged cells. Different players of KRC Genk use the B-E-St appliance during rehabilitation.
Which players have already been treated with B-E-St therapy?
B.O.: The appliance has been used during the 2008-2009 season by Elianiv Barda and Ederson Tormena. They both underwent several B-E-St therapy programs a day. These programs ranged from 15 to 30 minutes and included a whole spectrum of rehabilitation programs that JeeCee© - the manufacturer of the appliance - set, among them lymph draining and cell regenerating applications that apply a unique bio-electrical profile to the body area that needs treatment. Recently, Stijn Huysegems and Tiago Silva were also treated with B-E-St therapy.
How did the players react?
B.O.: Stijn was particularly pleased with the appliance because it is easy to use. After one short training session by one of the clubs physiotherapists you can just about set it yourself. Tiago already noticed results after one session. That is why he regularly takes the appliance home so he can apply additional treatments himself at night.
Is the medical staff also pleased with the B-E-St appliance?
B.O.: Certainly. The appliance can be used by the players at home where they can be treated with standard programs but also for more complex treatments which can have numerous applications when used by a professionally trained physiotherapist. Furthermore it's very user-friendly. One of the factors that simplify the treatment is the feedback given by the appliance about for instance the bio-electrical condition of the treated body area. That's how you can follow up the effect of each treatment. Thanks to its user-friendliness and extensive applicability the B-E-St appliance has grown into the standard treatment appliance of the medical department of KRC Genk.
